Founded in 1926, the Choral School "Giacomo Puccini" is currently a mixed choir composed of over 50 members, directed by the
Choirmaster Francesco Saguatti.
The repertoire is mostly polyphonic, but it also includes many pieces
of popular music, both classical and contemporary. In its long history, the choir has given
hundreds of performances, and participated in numerous competitions and choir rallies, both
in Italy and abroad: in France, Switzerland, Turkey, Austria (with concerts in Vienna and
Salzburg), in Prague in 1995 (at the "International Festival of Sacred Music" during which
it performed Mozart's Coronation Mass), in Spain in 2000 (at the "International Choir
Competition of Cantonigròs" near Barcelona), and in Greece in 2001, as a guest Choir,
at the "Choir Festival of Kifisià", near Athens.
Also worthy of note are the two concerts in the Vatican (Saint Peter and Sala Nervi) and, in
April 1992 a special audience and performance in the private apartments of Pope John Paul II.
In March 1994 the choir performed in the Upper Basilica of St Francis in Assisi and in 1996
in the Basilica of Loreto.
Other concerts worth mentioning are those held in Venice in the May of 1998.
For several years the choir has collaborated with the Camerata Musicale Padana
orchestra at a number of concerts: Mozart's Coronation Mass ('93, '96),
Vesperae Solemnes de Confessore ('95), Requiem ('96) and Dominicus Mass, K66 ('98);
Vivaldi's Gloria ('94); Fauré's Requiem ('94); Charpentier's Te Deum ('97);
Puccini's Messa di Gloria ('99); selected pages from Bach's Christmas Oratorio,
BWV 248 and Mass in B minor, BWV 232 (2000); selected pages from Händel's Messiah (2001).
